Match Report

Fraser Murray who scored 80 on debut

Jonno Campbell 55 of 53 balls

The club batted first and lost Richard Andrew to the new ball. A partnership of 79 between Jonno Campbell (55) and Fraser Murray (80) set us on the way to a big total. The District Chairman was next out failing to gauge the speed of the ball against his own speed between the wickets but that brought together Raj Waruna (45) and Murray who put on a further 104 for the fourth wicket. A flurry of runs from Kevin Lawler allowed the club to declare 254-5 leaving the Academy around two and a half hours to win the match.

The Academy openers got off to a flyer and added 122 for the first wicket, a wicket that could have fallen five times before it did if the Forty Club fielding had been up to scratch. Further fielding lapses allowed 88 runs to be added for the second wicket and that put the school in the box seat. With six overs till stumps the school needed 44 runs to win and as we arrived at the last over that total was seven.

The winning runs were hit of the third last ball of a  match that had lasted the thick end of 80 overs, delivered 311 runs and only 7 wickets. As the school coach said afterwards a great game of cricket. 257 was the highest score the school had recorded in 23 years and possibly ever.

Well done to John Oliver who scored an excellent 105 no.
