With XL batting first it became a game of two umpires. Deborah Burns was excellent unfortunately the same cannot be said of her colleague who gave two very dubious LBW’s against XL and missed a vital stumping when XL were in the field. But hey ho that’s how the game goes sometimes.
Andy Stokes produced a wonderful innings to steady the ship to 195 what was considered a score we could defend, Andy Marshall contributed well and batted well. Ben Smith hit some resounding shots to quickly reach the Lunch interval.
The School boys batted very well in a controlled manner guided very well by Chris Peploe. It seemed that the boys knew they could get this score if batting with control, and they did.
John Hawkins opened the bowling along with Luke Smith followed by the pace and sharp bowling by Ben Smith. Chris Page bowled a tidy spell picking up 2 wickets. Unfortunately the XL skipper had declared a little too early.
