Match Report

The Club lost the toss and Wales over 50’s put us in to bat on a green looking track.  Our opening pair of Rob Jones and Peter Lynn found things tough early on against an accurate seam attack from J Kenchington and H Rogers and we lost of first wicket with only 2 on the board when Peter Lynn played on.  Debutant Keri Chahal then came to the crease and also found things tough going, eventually being bowled for 5 with the score on 23-2.  Another debutant, Leighton Walters made his way to the crease however we soon lost another wicket when Rob Jones was the third batsman to be bowled , making 11 and the score was 25-3. Skipper Chris Richards joined Walters to try and steady the ship.  They managed to see of the remaining overs of the opening pair which then brought on the spin twins of Roy Emott and Chris Hudson.  Briefly the pair started to build a partnership before Chris Richards was bowled by Hudson for 9 and the score on 48-4 in the 25th over.  Martin Wiltshire joined Walters and finally the run rate started to creep up with some crisp shots and great running between the wickets.  In 9 overs the pair managed to put on 60 runs with Wiltshire going for a valuable 26.  Walters continued to take the attack to the bowlers and was eventually out for an excellent 60.  A few more wickets tumbled as the Forty Club tried to post a target and ended up 154 all out in the 39th over. S Jones taking 4-19 off 3 overs at the death.

The Forty Club opened up the bowling with Jon Corden and debutant Dean Hollands.  The opening pair for the 50’s also struggled to get going thanks to some tight bowling and excellent ground fielding.  With the score on 20 Corden got the breakthrough by bowling N.Williams.  Soon after Paul Bennett was superbly run out by Keri Chahal and the score was 22-2 off 10 overs.  John Jones then came to the crease and started to pick off the bad balls and soon raced to 18 before caught by Lee Parry off the bowling of Leighton Walters.  Another superb run out by Walters this time saw Alaistair Lawson gone for a duck and the over 50’s were 52-4 off 22 overs.  Tight bowling by Gareth Jenkins and Leighton Walters restricted the runs and forced the 50’s to play risky shots which resulted in wickets tumbling at regular intervals.  Lee Parry then came on and continued to keep the squeeze on.  Eventually the 50’s were bowled out for 102 off 36.3 overs with Dean Hollands 3-20, Leighton Walters 2-27 and Lee Parry 2-20 the pick of the bowlers in a comfortable win for the Forty Club in the end.
